Repowering a stump grinder with a larger Deutz engine
The engine on a Vermeer stump grinder failed. We fitted a larger Deutz 914 on mounts and adapters we designed and made in the shop.
The Deutz TD2011 on the customer's Vermeer stump grinder failed. We replaced it with a Deutz 914, a larger engine that does not fit the original mounts.
What we did
- Modelled the new engine, the grinder frame and the drive in 3D.
- Designed a mounting cradle and adapters for the new engine and had the plates plasma cut.
- Machined the drive adapter on our lathe.
- Installed the engine, connected the drive, fuel, cooling and wiring, and ran the machine.
The grinder quickly became the customer's favourite, and they have asked us to do the same conversion on their other grinder.
